Stephen Clark

Founder and Managing Director

「有志者事竟成」

“Where there is a will there is a way”

Stephen Clark, joint managing director, is one of the joint founders of our holding company Anglo Chinese Holdings, Limited in 1988.

He graduated from Nottingham University in 1972 and spent two years with stockbrokers P.N. Kemp Gee & Co. in London and then six years in corporate finance with Standard Merchant Bank Limited in South Africa where he obtained his MBA from The University of Witwatesrand, Johannesburg.

In 1983, he came to Hong Kong where he spent five years in corporate finance, first with Wardley Limited and then Citicorp International Limited where he was co-head of corporate finance and head of corporate finance respectively.

He is chairman of the Hong Kong Takeovers and Mergers Panel and a member of The Takeovers Appeal Committee, a former director of the Hong Kong Securities Institute and has served as an alternate member of the Listing Committee of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. He has over 35 years of experience in corporate finance and is regarded as the leading expert on public company takeovers in Hong Kong.

Among Stephen’s wide ranging interests is art. He has an important personal collection and is closely involved in the purchase and curation of our art collection.

Christopher Howe

Founder and Managing Director

Christopher Howe, joint managing director, is one of the joint founders of our holding company, Anglo Chinese Holdings, Limited in 1988. He has over 35 years of experience with Clients in investment banking and leads our corporate reorganisation & corporate rescue business, litigation support and investment activities.

He graduated from Oxford University in 1977 and obtained an MSc from the City University Business School, London. He joined the First National Bank of Boston, where he spent a year in a formal credit analysis programme in London and Boston, and two years in the specialist lending division.

In 1982 he returned to Hong Kong and spent six years in corporate finance, first with Wardley Limited and then with Citicorp International Limited, where he was a director. While at Wardley and Citicorp he was responsible for numerous complex loan and investment recoveries and corporate rescues. Since then he has also been active in a wider range of corporate finance activities, particularly mergers and acquisitions and company sales and litigation support.

He served as a member of the Dual Filing Advisory Group of the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong.

Christopher is an avid reader and bibliophile and is fascinated by horology. He has built a fine collection of rare timepieces from around the world.

Dennis Cassidy

Director, Head of Corporate Finance

Dennis Cassidy, director, has over 35 years of experience in corporate finance and is head of corporate finance at Anglo Chinese. He graduated from the London School of Economics, where he obtained a law degree in 1972, and qualified as a barrister in England before joining Robert Fleming & Co Limited in London in 1977.

He arrived in Hong Kong in 1980 where he has spent over 30 years in corporate finance in Asia, first with Jardine Fleming, where he was a director, and then five years with Standard Chartered Asia Limited, where he was managing director of corporate finance. He joined Anglo Chinese in 1999.

He is a member of the Listing Committee of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and has served as a member on the Hong Kong Panel on Takeovers and Mergers, the Hong Kong Standing Committee on Company Law Reform and the Dual Filing Advisory Group of the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong.

Dennis is an experienced horseman and has competed internationally.

Stephanie Wong

Director

「熟能生巧,巧能生精」

“Practice makes perfect”

Stephanie Wong, director, has over 30 years of experience in finance and corporate finance as an investment banker and a regulator. She is our head of execution for public company transactions and a director in our corporate reorganisation & corporate rescue practice.

She graduated at The University of Sydney in 1987. She then qualified as a chartered accountant in Australia with KPMG before returning to Hong Kong where she spent six years with the Securities and Futures Commission as a senior manager with responsibilities for takeovers and mergers and other policy work.

She obtained a law degree in 1997 from The University of Wolverhampton in England and was a member of the Corporate Finance Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She joined Anglo Chinese in 2000.

Stephanie's interests outside business are a far cry from accounting or law. She is an avid flower arranger and floristry takes up much of her precious spare time.

Stuart Wong

“No pain, no gain”

Stuart Wong, director, brings more than 15 years of corporate finance experience to Anglo Chinese Clients. He graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1993 and began his corporate finance career with us in 2000. His transaction record includes hostile and friendly takeovers, initial public offerings, group restructurings, privatisations and mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining Anglo Chinese, he was at the City University of Hong Kong conducting research in corporate governance, earnings-return relationships and audit risk. Previously he was with the Pearson Group plc in Hong Kong having returned from Canada in 1996 where he had set up his own retail and wholesale distribution business.

Stuart’s interest in endurance sports takes him from the trails to be found in Hong Kong’s country parks to the foothills of the Himalayas.

Dian Deng

Director

「君子藏器于身,待时而动」

“Master the skills for the right time.”

Dian Deng, director, has over 10 years’ corporate finance experience with Anglo Chinese. She graduated from the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford in 2007 and from Nanjing University in 2006.

She began her corporate finance career with Anglo Chinese in 2008 and her transaction record includes privatisations, group restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, and other corporate finance transactions for listed and private companies based in Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Inside and outside of office walls Dian's focus remains on people — using her creative eye to photograph those that inspire her.

York Lu

Director, Beijing

「書中自有黃金屋」

“Reading brings us everything”

York Lu, director, has over 15 years of experience in corporate finance. He graduated from the University of International Business & Economics in Beijing in 2000, and from Tsinghua University in 1996.

Prior to joining Anglo Chinese in 2007, he worked at Deloitte & Touche Corporate Finance in Beijing and, prior to that, he was a senior manager at Core-Pacific Yamaichi International working on corporate transactions for PRC clients.

Based in our Beijing office he is responsible for advising clients in China and for identifying and originating transactions.

Outside work, York can be found reading up on the history of the world with a particular interest in the Middle Kingdom.

Jinyu Ma

Director, Shanghai

「獨樂樂不如衆樂樂」

“Music is best enjoyed with others”

Jinyu Ma, director, has over 30 years of experience in business and finance. He graduated from Shanghai University of Technology in 1986, majoring in Industrial and Business Management. Based in our Shanghai office, he is responsible for advising clients in China and for identifying and originating transactions.

Prior to joining Anglo Chinese in 2013, he was a director in corporate finance at Baring Brothers/ING Bank, Shanghai branch, and was closely involved in numerous merger and acquisition and equity capital market transactions in China both for foreign multinationals and local companies.

Previously, he worked with the China-Britain Trade Group’s Shanghai office as their Chief Representative. During 1986-1992, he was the purchasing production deputy manager of Shanghai Volkswagen.

Like many others, Jinyu learned to play the violin at an early age and his passion for music remains to this day.

Nicholas Mawdsley

Director, Head of Investment

「三思而後行」

“Look before you leap”

Nicholas Mawdsley, director, has over 20 years of experience in investment and research and is in charge of our investment department. He graduated from Brunel University in 1993 and thereafter completed his MSc at Aberdeen University.

Prior to joining Anglo Chinese in 2005, Nicholas was general manager at FCP Group, a private equity and direct investment firm based in Hong Kong. Prior to that, he worked at Asian Financial Intelligence as a research director. He has also worked at BNP Paribas and BZW Asia Limited as a regional economist and analyst.

Nicholas is a consummate sportsman who plays soccer regularly and participates in numerous marathons and triathlons.

Patrick Johnson

Director and Group General Manager

「不要混水摸魚」

“Never fish in troubled water”

Patrick Johnson, director, has over 30 years of experience having graduated from Edinburgh University in 1982. He is group general manager and is in charge of Anglo Chinese's operations, risk monitoring, compliance and accounting.

Prior to joining Anglo Chinese in 1999, he worked with Banco Santander, SA, as financial controller of its investment operation in London before moving to Hong Kong in 1997 as controller for its Hong Kong branch.

He has also worked at Smith New Court, where he spent three years specialising in regulatory financial reporting, and with Security Pacific Investment Bank in its fixed income department. Patrick qualified as a chartered accountant in London.

Patrick’s personal interest is underwater diving and photography and has visited many of the top diving sites in South East Asia.
